Instructions for Transporting Dangerous Products

Requirements that must be attended:

all

  • The driver of the vehicle must carry the CNH and the vehicle document (CRLV) with the valid license. If the vehicle is not in the driver's name, an authorization to drive the vehicle must be carried;
  • the driver of the vehicle must be properly dressed, wearing trousers, shirt and shoes;
  • the driver of the vehicle must be physically fit, without signs of intoxication, drowsiness or other physical problems
  • the vehicle's fire extinguisher must be valid and bear the INMETRO mark of conformity
  • the vehicle must meet the conditions established by the traffic legislation, such as: have a tachograph, when applicable, and a spare disc
  • to have tyres and wheels in good condition;
  • to present high and low headlights, horn, speedometer, position lights, position change indicator (arrows), brake lights, rear plate light, alarm and rear light working properly
  • to have reflective strips on the sides, rear and bumper, when applicable; to have the fuel tank closed and not leaking;
  • possess front and rear bumpers, wings, rear-view mirrors, windshield wiper and sun visor in good condition;
  • possess front and rear bumpers, wings, rear-view mirrors, windshield wiper and sun visor in good condition;
  • have a protective brace for the Cardam shaft (chain or cable) - for front engine and rear wheel drive vehicles;
  • present the electric wiring properly isolated and fixed;
  • all occupants of the vehicle must have seat belts.

Automotive vehicle, trailer and semi-trailer.

Vehicle registered as 'Truck' (cargo)

Under Limited Quantity

(see table of Dangerous Products List - OD-ALMX-07 or PP11)

  • the vehicle must be of the "cargo" or "utilitarian" type
  • the vehicle must have a fire extinguisher for the load, defined according to the size of the vehicle and class/subclass of the product to be transported (see table below Table 1 - Fire Extinguishers or page 670 of PP11);

Over the Limited Quantity

(see table of Dangerous Products List - OD-ALMX-07 or PP11)

  • the vehicle must be of the "cargo" or "utilitarian" type
  • the driver must have specific training for transporting dangerous products (MOPP);
  • the vehicle must have a set for emergency situations / emergency kit group 1;
  • the vehicle must have a portable fire extinguisher suitable for the load, defined according to the size of the vehicle and class/subclass of the product being transported (see Table 1 - Fire Extinguishers or page 670 of PP11);
  • the vehicle must have safety panels and risk labels;
  • the vehicle should have ANTT registration inscription on the external sides of the cabin - not applicable to own cargo transportation;
  • the vehicle must have a PPE group 1 kit (personal protective equipment).

Group 1 - Personal Protective Equipment - PPE (page 292 of PP11)

  • a) helmet and gloves of material suitable for the product(s) being transported;
  • b) safety goggles for chemical products.

Group 1 - Emergency Equipment Kit (page 292 of PP11)

  • (a) two wheel chocks with minimum dimensions 150 mm x 200 mm x 150 mm;
  • b) set of tools suitable for emergency repairs during the journey, appropriate to the vehicle, and transport equipment containing at least:universal pliers;
  • screwdriver or philips screwdriver (as required);
  • screwdriver (fixed) suitable for disconnecting the battery cable.
  • c) devices for isolation of the area: tape (minimum width of 70 mm), of any colour (except transparent) of minimum length compatible with the dimensions of the vehicle and quantity of devices, so as not to touch the ground and to be possible the isolation of the vehicle and the road in a safe distance, according to the table below;
  • NOTE: the tape is not intended for road signaling mentioned in Resolution 160 of CONTRAN, only for isolation of the area.
  • warning material consisting of four self-supporting plates with minimum dimensions of 340 mm x 470 mm, with the inscription "DANGER - BE AWAY";
  • devices, according to the table below, which can be tripods, cones, easels or other devices to support the tape. Do not mistake the "cone" to support the tape used for isolation with the cones for signaling the road, which must comply with ABNT NBR 15071.
  • d) devices for signaling the area: four cones for signaling the road, in accordance with ABNT NBR 15071.
  • e) complementary devices: one common torch with at least two medium-sized batteries;
  • NOTE: the lantern can be national or imported, provided it complies with the applicable legislation.
  • the vehicle must have a fire extinguisher for the load, defined according to the size of the vehicle and class/subclass of the product to be transported (see table below Table 1 - Fire Extinguishers or page 670 of PP11);
  • shovel and impermeable tarpaulin, resistant to the product, of a minimum size of 3 m x 4 m, for the transport of solid dangerous products of any of the risk classes.

* As provided by Resolution 420/04 ANTT, any transportation unit, if loaded with dangerous products, shall carry portable fire extinguishers (extinguisher on wheels does not fit as portable).

* NBR 9735:2012 Set of emergency equipment for land transportation of hazardous products item 4.4.16 - The transportation unit for fractioned/packed transportation with: a) flammable liquid or gaseous product shall carry one extinguisher with powder charge of 8 kg or two extinguishers with carbonic gas charge of 6 kg each.
